The digital divide
The lack of access to information and data both as a means and as a skill is known as the digital divide this is based on several gaps . these are as follows :
- The digital divide - the socioeconomic divide
associated with geodemographic factors . according to (Dutton ,2004) the digital divide can also be referred to as the have and have not's ,relevant in case of internet use ,where countries differ greatly in number of public access to the internet .
- The digital divide - divide in infrastructure
relating to socioeconomic factors, the difference in infrastructure between and developed and developing countries are another contributing factor to the digital divide. the infrastructure of a developing country is often what hinders its range of access.
- The digital divide - divide in content
according to (Dutton ,2014) nearly 70% of websites on the internet are in English although this has changed substantially throughout the years , English still reigns supreme.

according to a 2013 report females in developing countries are online 23% less than their male counterparts . this deprives them from reaping the benefits of digital access such as accessing career opportunities , access to support communities and more

although accessibility has increased in many countries the rate of skill development such as digital literacy still hinders progress
- The digital divide - the universal access divide
this refers to those physically disadvantaged when it comes to access , regardless of skill but the hardware and software needed to obtain digital access . this is due to the excessive cost of these materials
